Destinations You’ll Visit on Chardham Yatra by Helicopter

The Chardham Yatra or Chota Chardham Yatra includes four main sacred places: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. These are the temples where the Chardham Heli Yatra takes you.
Yamunotri Dham

Yamunotri Dham

Yamunotri is also known as “Jamnotri” and is the glacier where the Yamuna River begins and it is located 3,293 meters above sea level. Along with the Yamunotri temple, Yamunotri has natural hot springs at Janki Chatti which is 7 km from the main temple and Surya Kund is a popular place to visit here. The temple is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas and was built in 1839 and the idol of Maa Yamuna is made of black marble. There is a Divya Shila near Surya Kund that devotees also worship before darshan and pilgrims sometimes boil potatoes and rice in the hot spring water.

Gangotri Dham

Gangotri Dham

Gangotri Dham is one of the key stops in the Char Dham Yatra as the temple is built along the Bhagirathi River which is about 3,100 meters above ground and this is considered the source of the Ganga River.According to mythology, the Pandavas performed a Yagya here after the Mahabharata war. The temple closes the day after Diwali and reopens on Akshay Tritiya. It is also believed that performing last rites here on the Bhagirathi River brings peace to ancestral souls.

Kedarnath Dham

Kedarnath Dham

Kedarnath is a small town in Rudraprayag district and one of the most important of the Char Dham Yatra as it is dedicated to Lord Shiva and believed to be built by Adi Shankaracharya. The temple remains closed from November to April due to heavy snowfall and as per legend, the Pandavas came to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva who took the form of a bull and tried to hide then Bhima recognized him and eventually, Shiva forgave them.

Badrinath Dham

Badrinath Dham

Badrinath is a town in Chamoli district which is located around 3,100 meters above sea level and it is one of the four temples included in the Chardham Helicopter Yatra and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. According to legend, Adi Shankaracharya found a black stone here that showed the image of Lord Badrinarayan and another belief says that Lord Vishnu in his “Nar” and “Narayan” forms, meditated at this place under a Peepal tree which gave it the name Badrinath.

When you plan to go for the Chardham Yatra by Helicopter then here’s something really important that we must keep in mind that all the Dhams are situated at great heights in the Himalayas and between 8,500 to 11,500 feet above sea level. The oxygen in air gets lesser as the temperature will drop too low and even the sunlight will feel stronger on the skin.

As we are not used to such high altitudes our body might take a little time to adjust to such situations, so try to go easy on yourself and don’t rush, try to take breaks, and keep checking how you’re feeling and always make sure your family is also doing okay too.

Because when the day ends and the tour is over your health is the only thing that will matter the most because when you feel good then you’re able to enjoy the blessings and peace that this sacred journey chardham yatra by helicopter offers.
