The temples remain inaccessible for six months, from November to April, because of heavy snowfall. From April end, every year, the temples open their doors for pilgrims, and the dates are given for the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya. May is the summer period, and this is the time when pilgrims can plan the Yatra. Besides, the roads get cleared, and the entire region is free of snowfall. However, this is when the region receives huge levels of pilgrims, and it gets crowded. The monsoon season from July till September is not advisable as due to heavy floods and landslides, threatening life. Post-monsoon, from September pilgrims can plan to book their Char Dham Yatra, and this is the time when there is less crowd. Hence, pilgrims can have a peaceful Yatra experience.

The Chardham temples in the state of Uttarakhand in India have a long deep rooted history Hinduism. The Yamunotri temple, dedicated to the goddess Yamuna, was originally constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. The present-day temple was built by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur in the 19th Century, as the former one was ravaged by natural disasters. The temple of Goddess Gangotri is about 300 years old, and Gorkha commander Amar Singh Thapa first constructed it. Later in the 19th century 19, this was reconstructed by the Jaipur king. Kedarnath temple is believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas of Mahabharata. However, the present architectural style is attributed to the temple construction by Adi Shankaracharya in the eighth century. Marked as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, the shrine has historical importance and has always been a part of several legends. The temple of Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and Adi Shankaracharya constructed it in the 8th century.
